David Caplan, Chairman of the Board of Directors

David CaplanDavid Caplan, Chairman of the Board of Directors, oversees the long-term direction of the company. He joined Objectivity in 1992 as President, CEO and Chairman.

Before joining Objectivity, David served as an independent management consultant and interim CEO for startup companies including Legato Systems, Resonex and Photon Dynamics. Prior to that, he was President and CEO of Tolerant Systems, the predecessor company to Veritas Software Corporation. In addition, David was a General Partner of Adler and Company, a venture capital firm, from 1984 to 1986.

David holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in mathematics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and an EJD from the Concord Law School.


John "Jay" Jarrell, President and CEO

John JarrellJohn "Jay" Jarrell, President and CEO, leads the operations of Objectivity Inc., determining the company's strategic direction and managing growth. Jay has a long history with Objectivity, Inc. starting in 1997 as the Vice President of Sales, and adding the Marketing group to his responsibilities shortly thereafter as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Jay was elevated to President and COO in 2002, and in 2003 was named President and CEO of the company, while also being appointed to the Board of Directors.

Prior to joining Objectivity in 1997, Jay was the senior director of sales and marketing for Creative Biomedics, a company specializing in network telecommunications equipment and software solutions. Previously, he held sales and marketing positions at Computer Associates and A.C. Nielsen Co. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Western Ontario in Canada.


Gary Lewis, Chief Financial Officer

Gary LewisGary Lewis, Chief Financial Officer, is responsible for all financial operations for Objectivity and also manages the human resources group. He joined Objectivity in May 2005 as Corporate Controller and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in March 2006.

Gary started his career with Ernst & Young in San Jose. Since then, he has spent more than 20 years managing the financial operations of a number of high-tech Silicon Valley companies. Most recently he was the Corporate Controller for AlphaSmart, Inc., a publicly traded company servicing the education market, and Vice President Finance for TechSpan, Inc., a software consulting company.

Gary holds a B.S. degree in business with a major in accounting and a minor in mathematics from the California State University at Chico. He is a certified public accountant (CPA) in the state of California and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.


Leon Guzenda, Founder

Leon GuzendaLeon Guzenda was one of the founding members of Objectivity in 1988 and one of the original architects of Objectivity/DB.

He currently works with Objectivity's major customers to help them effectively develop and deploy complex applications and systems that use the industry's highest-performing, most reliable DBMS technology, Objectivity/DB. He also liaises with technology partners and industry groups to help ensure that Objectivity/DB remains at the forefront of database and distributed computing technology.

Leon has more than 35 years experience in the software industry. At Automation Technology Products, he managed the development of the ODBMS for the Cimplex solid modeling and numerical control system. Before that, he was Principal Project Director for International Computers Ltd. in the United Kingdom, delivering major projects for NATO and leading multinationals. He was also design and development manager for ICL's 2900 IDMS product. He spent the first 7 years of his career working in defense and government systems.

Leon has a B.S. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Wales.


Brian Clark, Vice President, Product Management

Brian ClarkBrian Clark, Vice President, Product Management, has nearly 30 years of software and technology experience, and was one of the early architects of Objectivity/DB.

Before joining Objectivity, Brian worked at Automation Technology Products, providing leading tools in the MCAD market. Prior to that, he was with Project Management Services at International Computers Limited, one of Europe's leading computer companies at the time. Brian holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from Sheffield University, England.


Rich Shelley, Vice President, Worldwide Sales Operations

Rich ShelleyRich is responsible for generating direct sales, managing distributors and sales agents, and creating and executing key sales strategies, especially in Objectivity's federal government market. He is also responsible for all pre- and post-sales Field Engineering activities.

Rich has more than 21 years experience in the software business and has held management titles at companies such as Computer Associates, Micro Tempus, TriTeal, Inxight and Click Software.

He joined Objectivity, Inc. in 2002 as a sales manager for the Eastern Region and was promoted to sales director in 2004. He became Vice President of Worldwide Sales in 2006 and Vice President, Worldwide Sales Operations in 2008.

Rich has a B.A. degree in Policy Studies from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University.


Ibrahim Sallam, Director of Development and Technical Publications

Ibrahim SallamIbrahim has been with Objectivity, Inc. since 2000, and has worked in the industry since 1988 with various roles in software development. He joined Objectivity as a Systems Engineer before being promoted to Senior Software Engineer, and then to Software Architect. Ibrahim was promoted to Director of Development and Technical Publications in April 2011.

Prior to Objectivity, Ibrahim worked in geospatial software development for the product that eventually became Autodesk GIS Design Server, was part of the development teams at CorelDraw and Unisys, and also helped build decision support systems for the government.

Ibrahim holds a B.Sc. in Systems and Biomedical Engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, and EE Diploma from Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands.


Phuong-Dinh Tieu, Director of Customer and Technical Services

Phuong-Dinh TieuPhuong-Dinh Tieu (also known as "T"), is responsible for managing customer-centric technical support for all Objectivity/DB users. In addition to his role in Technical Services, he also leads the Software Quality Assurance, Build/Release, and Information Technology Department.

Phuong-Dinh joined Objectivity as an Engineer in 2002. Prior to joining Objectivity, he served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps in the 2nd Battalion 23rd Marines, an experience to which he attributes the leadership, dedication, and energy that he brings to Objectivity.

Phuong-Dinh holds a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics from San Jose State University.


Thomas W. Krafft, Director of Marketing and Demand Generation

Thomas KrafftThomas oversees all marketing functions at Objectivity, including communications and PR, product planning, strategy, demand generation and content development.

Thomas is a techie turned marketeer. He spends much of his time translating geek into business (and vice versa), and telling the world about innovative new technologies. He joined Objectivity, Inc. in 2008, and brought with him a proven track record of success from companies such as Intuit and Veritas, successful startup ventures, and hundreds of clients he served through independent consulting for several years, including NASA and the Internet Archive.

Thomas holds a B.A. in Political Science, International Relations, from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.

Patricia Stamos, Senior Manager, Marketing

Patricia StamosAs Senior Manager, Marketing, Patricia Stamos brings over 15 years of corporate marketing and B2B sales experience, with a focus on startup and new technology ventures. Patricia oversees the strategic corporate marketing, communications, PR and events efforts globally for Objectivity, Inc.

Prior to joining Objectivity, Patricia most recently led the sales teams for corporate event service providers managing global event programs for Fortune 1000 clients including VMware, Nuance, Toshiba and Cisco. Previous corporate marketing experience include: Telera, Inc. - acquired by Alcatel, Core Technology Group - acquired by FutureNext Technologies, and Nortel Network's Global Enterprise Services Division. Patricia studied International Business and Marketing at the University of Texas at Dallas and San Jose State University.



Matthew Wallis, Managing Director, EMEA

Matthew WallisMatthew Wallis has over 30 years of Sales, Marketing and Management in Europe and Asia. Wallis' experience spans direct sales, both hardware and software, high volume and embedded distribution plus large project orientated contracts. He has held sales management positions with large corporations such as Hewlett Packard , Motorola, StorageTek and Quark plus been involved with several software startups. Wallis comes to Objectivity from Quark Software Inc. where he held the position of Senior Vice President Sales for Europe and East Asia. He holds a BSc in Control Engineering and a Diploma in Strategic Business Direction.


Graham Freeman, Director, Sales APAC

Graham FreemanGraham's partnership with Objectivity as the Director, Sales Asia Pacific (APAC), builds off his experience as the Founder and CEO of Korora Partners. He has over 25 years of experience with high technology companies helping build those businesses globally. During his career, Graham has overseen the international expansion of Quark, Inc. and similar company Arbortext Inc., was actively involved in Adobe Systems' turnaround in 1999 as their Senior VP of Worldwide Sales and Support, and achieved success with IBM, Compaq and ASK Learning. Graham serves on the Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Greater Bay Area, and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree in Marketing and Business from the University of New South Wales, Australia.
