The Challenge:
The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) is a national research laboratory probing the structure of matter.
The Objectivity/DB Solution:
SLAC uses Objectivity/DB for B Factory, its flagship research project, which includes the PEP II accelerator and the BaBar particle detector.
Objectivity/DB's leading edge database management solutions are essential to the project not just for the volumes of data it can handle, but for the way it can make the data available to research partners around the world. SLAC acquires one terabyte of data per day, and currently sits at in excess of 900 Terabytes (compressed) of on-line data the largest production database in the world. The tremendous scalability of Objectivity/DB helps SLAC cope with data volumes that would quickly overwhelm databases of lesser performance. Capitalizing on Objectivity/DB's sophisticated capacity to seamlessly integrate servers and users in multiple locations, the SLAC data is fully distributed over 240 servers in a grid of over 2,000 application processors.
